The Great Goat Pumpkin Smash November 7, 2026 11AM-12PM
There is definitely something fun and cozy about being on the farm in fall. The usual fall stuff like the crisp air and the goats all puffed up in their natural winter coats is absolutely some of those cozy things for me. The goat’s milk production will slowly come to halt as the days get colder and shorter. That means one less daily chore to complete and more time for scratching critters on their fuzzy heads!
Goat’s destroying pumpkins is another activity that is synonymous with fall around here. This combination of goat and pumpkin is pretty entertaining. What looks like “destroying” is mostly normal goat behavior. When a goat meets a pumpkin it turns into something super fun to eat and manipulate.
Goats are naturally curious browsers. They investigate unfamiliar things with their lips, mouths, noses, and sometimes their horns and hooves. A pumpkin gives them a big, rollable object they can sniff, lick, paw, push, climb on, and eventually bite into.
Once a pumpkin is opened, there’s an extra reward, pumpkin guts! Goats love the texture and the seeds. One goat taking a bite can also get the rest of the herd interested. Then you get the classic goat combination of competition, curiosity, eating, and general goat chaos. A true pumpkin demolition project.
Over the years friends would bring us their leftover fresh Halloween pumpkins for the goats and donkeys. It became a November tradition for myself to whip a few pumpkins a day into the pastures and watch the shenanigans ensue. It became a nice supplement to their diets and added enrichment to their day. So, this season we thought it might be fun to invite our customers to the farm for the Great Goat Pumpkin Smash!
What to Expect:
11-11:30AM
Before the smashing begins, slow down, and enjoy autumn on the farm. Visit with the goats and snap some fall photos.
11:30AM-12PM
Main Event! We will fill the pastures with pumpkins, gather everyone around, release the herd and let the goats take it from there. Will a goat stand on one? Almost certainly. Will there be complete goat chaos? We certainly hope so.
Come dressed for the weather on the farm. Wear boots or athletic shoes.
One safety note: Please only bring plain, fresh pumpkins. The goats cannot eat any painted, glittered, waxed, MOLDY, or chemically treated decorative pumpkins. It will make them very sick. We may not accept your pumpkin due to these reasons. Please only bring up to 4 pumpkins per person. We do not want the goats to gorge themselves! You are welcome to bring pumpkins that have not been carved as the goats like to roll them and push them with their horns. They actually prefer those. There are no refunds due to weather. If we have to cancel due to weather, we will offer you a credit to join us on Sunday, November 8. if that does not work for you, we will offer a credit towards a goat hike in the future.
